San Carlos, CA January 25, 2011- Alex Powers in Northern Virginia is a very industrious and busy General Manager for Junk King. From the time he was 18 until four years ago, he was a United States Marine Corps machine gunner. He also attended two years at the Naval academy.
Currently, he attends George Mason University, double majoring in economics and marketing. At Junk King, not only does he manage the drivers, he also oversees all marketing initiatives. He believes that networking is their best return on investment. He meets with homeowner associations and other community groups to recruit new business. They have implemented what they call "community dump days". These entail meeting with homeowner associations and offering them a flat rate to pick up any items that the homeowners in their community bring out to the curb on a certain day. This allows Junk King to only have to schedule once for numerous customers and not have to haul all the items out of people's homes. This mimics what many city garbage companies will do, except that Junk King will take everything and anything.
A few of Alex's goals for 2011 are to make these"community dump days" extremely successful and get the number of business to business jobs up. He also just submitted the paperwork to purchase their third truck!
Daniel Graham, owner of the Fairfax County Virginia never made a trip to the landfill in the month of December... YES, they were able to recycle 100% of everything they removed from job sites!
